Ghulam Muhammad Bukhsh urf GAMA a very humble gentleman by nature
This is the face I remember I missed having a selfi with him but I did have some pictures with him taken by my friend but they are lost now.I wish I had obtained copies of them from Mehbub Ali)
The GREAT GAMA PEHALWAAN
the only UNBEATEN wrestler in the history of wrestling and he came from India/Pakistan
You can find his extraordinary life history and accomplishments through internet now. He was born most likely 1882 (also given 1878 which may be closer to truth) and died in 1960 (although I was told he died in 1963)
He was a patient in East Medical Ward of Mayo hospital during the time I was senior house physician (under Col Elahi Bukhsh the prof of Medicine and Principal of KE Medical College Lahore)and Last I served him was on 15th of January 1959.
I had the privilege of treating Gamaji for about 4 months when he was almost bedridden and I used to give daily IV injections to him Both he and his wife (also our patient on female medical ward) liked me.
One reason- I was Kashmiri and I was gentle with him but one day I was out for something and my other colleague gave him the injection Mrs. Gamaji complained to me and was ready to leave the hospital so I never missed after that
But I had the privilege of shaking hand with him every night for four months I wanted the feel of that once powerful grip of this legendary wrestler
This I was reminded when I wrote my note on Mohammad Ali at his recent death and I had the privilege of shaking hands with him too.
It is quite a story I thought I had written about him but I could not find my blog. here are some more thoughts. At his age with arthritis and diabetes etc. he needed continuous medical attention so he was offered by my boss Col Saheb to be admitted to Private family wards which required him to pay from his pocket that he could not afford. So he opted for regular Mayo hospital general male medical ward
He not only belongs to Kashmiri family but prefers kashmiris also and are very strict about favoring Kashmiris. He had been given just two acres of land but at his age he could not go to take possession or use the land so he was not very rich in his old age as opposed to his nephews who were the Champions of Pakistan sons of his brother Imam Bukhsh. This is how it happened. There was one Cartoonist of Pakistan Times, a Mr. Butt who knew me and approached me that through me (because I am a Kashmiri also) Gama ji has agreed to be admitted in Col. Sahebs ward otherwise he was reluctant (though he needed hospitalization bad) Col Bukhsh asked me to give an additional bed one for his "Malishia" in our side room (fourbeds in the room) This picture is that of his older age picture that I remember.

With his picture
A very nice article. The Indian subcontinent has a great and ancient tradition in wrestling. Again India is rising in genuine global wrestling. However, some segments of the global media 9the JJewish lobby) is planting Noora (Fake) wrestlers as real ones. Fake names are being planted also to make them equal to Gama. Gama will be remembered as one of the greatest wrestler ever. He was lucky to have Aryan Central Asian (he was a pure ethnic Kashmiri a Bhat. The Bhats were Kashmiri Brahmins who had taken up Islam) Kashmiri genes. Also Coupled with good intelligence purity and hard work he emerged as a great wrestler. Rahim Baksh Bhat another Kashmiri was equal to Gama.
Time to glorify the great Gama. None like him. He was extremely strong, a great artist and also compassionate. Was proud of his Kashmiri origins Never fought a fake bout. Note Dara Singh was quite good but nowhere close to Gama. Also Dara fought fake bouts and was never even a Commonwealth Champion let alone a World Champion. Genuine wrestling in India is surely picking up due to the late Guru Hanuman. But the legend of Gama will continue. Not only the subcontinent the the world is proud of the Great Gama.
Lived in the Kashmir Valeey am from the Jammu region. A famous British traveler has remarked in the 19th Century that many Kashmiris are built like Hercules in the Valley. Thus these Central Asian Aryans make great wrestlers. Though the Jew is doing great propaganda as usual for the often short and dark Punjabis Gama was a proud Kashmiri. So is Nawaz and his late wife Kalsoom.
Very good article-A good article. As a Kashmiri who travels a lot I have this to mention-The Yehudi (Jew) is moving all over India and spreading malicious false data. They went to Tajikistan and started to refer to our Aryan Tajik cousins as Jews! But the Tajik are very clever and know their Aryan past. Note the Aryan civilization is in the limelight in Tajikistan. The Tajiks are direct descendants of the famous prehistoric Aryan people, and the brilliant President Emomali Rakhmonov is stressing this. The Jews are by fraud using the Semitic connection of Islam in order to Semitize Aryan nations racially. Race and religious are often two different things. The Jew has now penetrated India thus the Aryan Kashmiris must be vigilant that the Jews do not start to Semitize us by fraud. Though this shall fail yet let us be cautious.
Coming from a family of wrestlers I was very happy to see your site. Indian subcontinent like Iran has a great wrestling tradition. Sadly following the Great Gama Butt (a genuine wrestler of Kashmiri stock. The ancestors of these Butts were Kashmiri Hindu Butt, Brahmans, who had taken up Islam) the wrestling in our region took a downward slide. Also many wrestlers rather than train for real fights became entertainers, even though they had talent they could not be referred to as genuine wrestlers. Example, by the period of Zubair Aslam,, Antonio Inoki, etc. they became entertainers (to make money) and few genuine wrestlers emerged. Also Dara Singh had good potential but again went for entertainment and money. He did not like Zubair even win a genuine Commonwealth Championship. Wrestling is rapidly on the rise in India and today India has numerous genuine world class wrestlers, examples, Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt, Amit Kumar Bajrang Punia, Ramesh Kumar, Narsingh Yadav, Deepak Punia, Sakshi Malik, the Phogat sisters, etc. to name a few. I might stress wrestling has nothing to do with religion. In fact the greatest recent wrestler Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Karelin is a Christian. Please separate genuine wrestling from Noora Kushti.
