This note is going to be limited to human aspect of Doctor-Patient connection'\ I remember when on I/I/2000 we were told to write notes of patients on computer and no paper work I asked my friend what do you feel
"I am going to have an heart attack"
But we had already noted that patient is sitting in front of us and we are talking to him but looking at the computer with only an occasional eye contact, The human connection had become very loose and inadequate From medical ethics point of view this is not far from neglect and negligence
Many a times patients come to a doctor for assurance rather than treatment and human connection is extremely important PART of therapeutic armamentarium. That has now reduced to a level that instead of treatment it is becoming harmful
Doctor is a kind of father figure regardless of his/her age. In my practice I did my best to be that always and from the beginning until I retired I have during this time of over 45 yrs I have seen all the changes both good as well as not so good in the way physicians work for the patients in hospital or clinic.
Not only that but doctors may not even touch the patient in a visit as he looks at the papers describing report of some blood test or Xray or other procedures (which are so many) results etc and in the end may say
"Well Mr or Mrs so and so you are doing well. Will see you again after 6 months or 3 months"
Visit finished
next patient please.
May be I am exaggerating but you get the point
