It is quite rightly said
There is no honor in killing
This in more than 99% cases involves the human female species. Either because reporting and media is much more commonly available or it may be a real thing that rape and killing of women (young or old) continues to increase and some horrible reports come from India. where killing of girls/women for "honor of the family" does not seem to be as common as in Pakistan. There is a general feeling that it exists among the Muslims more and it may be true but it surely is not limited to Muslims, as I remember a sikh girl being killed for "family honor" in London some years back.
Most horrible killing was recently reported in Lahore in front of the high court on The Mall when a married woman as killed by a father and brother brutally. The police knew and NOBODY did anything about it. The reason: she married by her own choice. (where was her husband--we heard nothing of this love)
All Muslims read the Qur'an everyday and are aware of the Jahilia custom of killing (buried alive) of female infants. Sura Takweer, Aya 7 and 8
و اذالموئودۃ سئلت-- بایّ ذنب قتلت
"and when the female infant buried alive is questioned
for what crime she was killed"
That killing is till going on inspite of such teachings of Qur'an and several sayings of the prophet SAWS who taught against it during his life. Be it whatever country and whatever culture there is no doubt even here in USA female conceptions are more often aborted than male and the reason is the same "Jahilia honor" of pre-Islamic Arabs and the more recent Eastern countries female killings. Admittedly female conceptions ending up aborted here the reason may not be "honor" but the "male preference" is still practiced in the so-called civilized countries.
Women belong to "weaker sex" or weaker gender and have remained the target for all oppression through all ages and all civilizations. Can it be stopped? I do not think so even though we all lose no time in 'condemning' such killings but beyond that to me it appears that nothing more can be done. Islamic teachings and awareness (which BTW the West follows more than the Muslims) may certainly reduce it, at leat that is my opinion.
