"And of His signs is the creation of heavens and the earth and the difference of your tongues and colors. Surely in this there are many signs for the learned." (Chapter 31, Verse 22)
Italics and bold letters are my option.
Only a creator can say things like this. After all what is color, just a mixture and distribution of pigment in the skin and we all have the same mouth, tongue, teeth, gutters and nasal cavities which we use for producing meaningful sounds and the 'meaningfulness' varies from place to place. Anthroplogists and linguists would go to extreme lengths for explanations.
Incidentally, I have often wondered at the similarity of
EARTH (English) and Eardh (Arabic). Did this English word come from Hebrew? (I am no 'epistemologist')
EACH BREATH THAT ONE TAKES IS A STEP TOWARD ONE"S DESTINY (Ali IBn-Abi Taalib RA)
Saugoree means I was born or I hail from Saugor This is the way they spelt the name of that city of my birth during British days of India. Then I moved at 11 years of age to Kotla a village in the Panjab close to the Kashmir border where I finished my initial education and childhood going on to Lahore for further studies where I got BSc and MBBS and then left for NWFP where I spent 2 1/2 years, teaching in the new Medical School, and from there leaving for UK and then USA

it's funny... usman is reading a book on shafi'i fiqh right now, and reading it makes me think of so many muslims who live every bit of their day and night questioning whether the tiniest thing they are doing is islamically right or not - which is not a bad thing in itself, but it becomes stifling when you stop thinking and learning for yourself and are always asking someone else what is better for you - but then i remembered how very many ayaat in the qur'an end like this one: "in this there are signs for those who think/reflect/ponder/etc" - and realized that true faith requires that level of thought about what you are doing, otherwise it is just blind following...
oh, and this is from the maerriam-webster website: EARTH: Etymology: Middle English erthe, from Old English eorthe; akin to Old High German erda earth, Greek era
Date: before 12th century
i wonder, too...
That is good Ayesha I knew you or Shabana maycome out with some explanation.
I am reading "four Imams and this book gives life of Shafei, poor fellow the more authentic he got the more people got angry with him and even attacked him physically.
he remained, however a scholar, a professional, a worthy opponent and ajust supporter, very balanced. His works is the first of its kind.
i also read that english "earth" and hebrew "erets" were false cognates. i didn't find anything about ard v. earth though, but i suspect ard is cognate with erets and therefore ard is probably not cognate with earth. but it is interesting.
then there's "arth" in hindi which means "meaning..."
