Late Obituary on Mary

Exactly six years today 28th January 2009, Mary left this world for the other. Mrs. Mary Gainey was like a second mother to my children Hassan and Ayesha. She called them 'my babies'
Had hypertension and diabetes which put her in bed in her last days. We got (hired) her a couple of months before Hassan was born. We both were looking after the baby thinking Mary could not look after such a little one. We did not know she was a most gentle, most kind lady and clean in her habits etc.
Soon Nancy and Nasim (my cousin) visited us from South Carolina to see the 'baby' Mary had a talk with Nancy that "these doctors dont let me touch the baby and I am dying to hold and care for the baby"
So on Nancy's recommendation we gave the responsibility and from then on Mary was a part of our family. She was an ideal 'nanny' though  we did not consider her as such because she was a most trustworthy person and we considered her as a part of our family and she cared for us like that too. You do not find such persons often in this world. In 1986 when we moved out of Fayetteville and started in Raleigh/Cary NC  I knew we would not be able to find anybody like her so we missed her and used to visit her as often as we could when we would go to Fayetteville. I know Hassan and Ayesha missed her too She was a good Christian, a pious lady

  1. Yes, I was very sad to hear of her passing. She dealt with a lot in her life, from being a black woman in the segregated South, to her health issues later in life. Never once did I hear her complain. The last time I saw her was in 2006, and she had injured herself falling in the bathroom. She blamed herself for the mishap.

She made us laugh as children, telling us stories and gave me my love of Southern food.

    I'll always miss Mimi.
